Public Art Administration
For the past two years, I have had the privilege of serving as the Civic Arts Manager for the City of Sugar Land, where I have been instrumental in revitalizing a division that had previously struggled to realize its potential. Upon assuming this role, I was faced with the challenge of leading a division that had been established in 2016 but had yet to produce a single piece of public art. Determined to effect meaningful change, I embarked on a journey to transform the division into a vibrant hub of creativity and community engagement.
In 2023, I proudly announced and successfully executed 11 initiatives, all completed without fail and under budget. Building upon this momentum, I have continued to raise the bar in 2024, announcing an impressive 24 initiatives, each one aimed at fostering cultural enrichment, inclusivity, and social impact. These initiatives span a wide range of projects, including the creation of functional art series, the development of impactful murals (including one that stands as the largest in the city), and the establishment of the Annual Civic Arts Gala, which has garnered attendance from 11 of the most prestigious arts organizations in the Houston area.
I am particularly proud of my efforts to promote STEAM education through collaborations with institutions like Fort Bend ISD, as well as initiatives such as Summer of Sound, the city's first-ever six-week live music festival, and the inaugural participation in Make Music Day, an international celebration of music. Additionally, I have been instrumental in introducing the first-ever City Sponsored Black History Month celebration and spearheading community engagement efforts in historically disenfranchised neighborhoods like Mayfield Park.
